Hornby High School opened in February 1975 as a co-educational secondary school to serve the families of Hornby. The generous eight hectare site at the corner of Carmen and Waterloo Roads was designed for a maximum roll of over 800, so today's students benefit from the spacious buildings and grounds. The current roll has grown to 520 students in recent years. The school buildings are a mixture of CEBUS rooms set around sheltered courtyards and permanent classroom blocks. The grounds are attractively landscaped with several areas for students to sit, play and enjoy the environment. The school has superb facilities for all curriculum areas. Specialist rooms for Science, Technology, Foods and Art and Drama are well-appointed and modern. The Music Suite includes a specialist teaching room, practice rooms, an electronic keyboard laboratory a sound control room with extensive computer facilities for music composition. The modern and well-appointed Auditorium provides the ideal venue for the performing arts. The Library has been developed as the Information Centre of the school with the introduction of the latest computer technology and stereo and video sound system. The Library has networked and internet ready multi-media computers for student use. There are two full-sized computer rooms equipped with modern P.C.s with several other computers available for student use in several rooms around the school. All students have EMail and internet access. The whole school is networked and most departments have their own computers where students can have instant access to programmes relevant to their work.
